Planet Ice Basingstoke Revised Opening Timeline

Following further delays in the refurbishment of the Basingstoke ice rink, Planet Ice has made the difficult decision to further delay the Phase 1 reopening. After reviewing the current progress on site, the first home game for the Basingstoke Bison has now been rescheduled to a later date still to be announced.

Chief Operations Officer Heath Rhodes met with the Bison Management Team this week to discuss the impact of the delay, particularly on the team and supporters who had been preparing for the original September 20th home fixture. “Refurbishment projects often face setbacks due to operational constraints and contractor availability,” Heath commented. “We understand the frustration this causes and appreciate the patience shown by the Bison community and all skaters waiting to return to the ice.”

As part of its continued investment at the Basingstoke site, the brand Planet Ice are pleased to announce the completion on the purchase of the unit formerly known as Little Frankies. This space was once part of the original rink footprint and will massively improve the overall facility and customer experience.

Heath continued ‘We recognise that this update will be disappointing and apologise for the inconvenience caused. At the same time, we would want to acknowledge the efforts of the on-site team and contractors who are working under challenging conditions to meet revised targets. The ice pad is nearing completion, with the new barrier and glass now installed. The next stage—ice making—is expected to begin shortly’.

While Phase 1 will open with limited resources, Planet Ice will continue working beyond the opening date to improve the facility and restore a full operation.
