Planet Ice Altrincham announces Multi-Year Partnership with Manchester Storm Women

Planet Ice is delighted to officially announce a multi-year partnership extension with the Manchester Storm Women’s Ice Hockey Team starting from this current season. Amid exciting new developments at the Altrincham rink, Planet Ice remains 100% committed to supporting the Storm Women. The venue has guaranteed that the women's team will retain their prominent ice time and match nights, backed fully by the brand to ensure their continued growth and competitive success.

Wez Spurrett, General Manager of Manchester Storm Women, commented:

"Having this multi-year commitment from Planet Ice provides the entire club with immense peace of mind. Securing our home ice allows us to focus entirely on what matters most, training hard, winning games, and inspiring the next generation of female players across Manchester."


Expanding the Hockey Offer: New NIHL Team

Building on this commitment to women's hockey, Planet Ice will also introduce a new Senior NIHL team to Altrincham, beginning in the 2027/28 season. Following the Manchester Storm’s recent relocation to the AO Arena, Planet Ice and the NIHL have moved quickly to ensure senior hockey continues at the rink.

Heath Rhodes, Chief Operating Officer of Planet Ice, stated:

"Women’s hockey is growing rapidly, and we want Altrincham to lead the way. While there is fantastic momentum around the rink right now, our message today is clear: the Storm Women have our complete backing this season, next season, and well into the future.


"Simultaneously, we fully support Manchester Storm’s transition to the AO Arena and wish them every success into the future. This move naturally creates an opportunity for a new NIHL team for the 2027/28 season. Coupled with our recent investments, including a new ice resurfacer and refrigeration plant, upcoming dehumidification and restroom refurbishments, we are proud to deliver a significantly enhanced experience for both ice users and hockey fans."


Manchester Storm Women and Planet Ice would like to give a huge thank you to all the fans, volunteers, and families who make game nights in Altrincham so special. We can't wait to see you all cheering from the stands for another incredible season!
