Planet Ice Announces Major Facility Upgrades and Infrastructure Investment Across UK Ice Rinks

ALTRINCHAM, UK — Planet Ice has taken delivery of a brand-new ice resurfacer at its Altrincham facility. This arrival follows the recent installation of a new, state-of-the-art refrigeration plant. Upgrades at Altrincham will continue into the summer with the introduction of a new dehumidification system and a comprehensive facility maintenance programme designed to enhance both the interior and exterior infrastructure.

"We are incredibly pleased with the ongoing developments at the Altrincham rink and extend our gratitude to Trane, Marshalls, and DryAir for their invaluable support," said Heath Rhodes, Chief Operations Officer. "With rising summer temperatures presenting an escalating challenge for climate control and ice management, these new acquisitions are vital to ensuring we provide exceptional ice quality and operational reliability year-round."

The Altrincham refrigeration project is part of a broader July investment initiative that successfully completed identical upgrades in Widnes, with a third installation currently underway in Peterborough.

Further enhancements scheduled for August include:

  • Dehumidification Upgrades: Installation of five new industrial dehumidifiers across the Altrincham, Leeds, Bristol, Gillingham, and Hemel Hempstead rinks.
  • Entertainment Infrastructure: A new sound system, disco lighting, and a massive new media screen will be installed at the Leeds venue.
  • Amenities: Upgraded changing rooms at the Gosport rink and fully refurbished public toilets at Altrincham.

"This year, we have virtually overhauled the entire rental skate inventory across all Planet Ice branded facilities," Rhodes added. "Additionally, to improve safety for our youngest skaters, we have introduced a standard mandatory glove-wearing policy for children aged 12 and under."
