Customer Announcement: Planet Ice, Widnes has been given official approval to re-open to the public from the evening of Monday, November 20th following remedial action to resolve the cause of carbon monoxide in the building.

The cause was found to be a fault on the ice-surfacing machine used to treat the ice in the breaks between periods of play in hockey matches. The incident occurred at a game between Widnes Wild and Solihull Barons. The machine has been replaced.

Following an investigation by Environmental Health and Health and Safety Executive officers the rink, which was evacuated and closed immediately after the carbon monoxide levels were identified, has now been cleared to re-open.

Planet Ice are sorry that this incident occurred but are pleased that the authorities found that the actions we have taken since identifying the cause of the problem means the rink is safe to re-open.

Planet Ice are also taking this opportunity to make a number of other improvements to the venue which will mean that all our visitors can enjoy a safer and more welcoming environment at the rink into the future.
