Planet Ice has been working tremendously hard on replacing the ice pad here at Blackburn Arena and we are getting closer to having a re- opening date. This will be announced very shortly.

Work began optimistically by carefully removing the ice pad. The intention was to hopefully be able to repair the fault allowing us to be up and running in the shortest possible timescale. However, during our initial investigations it soon became clear that additional work needed to be undertaken which included a total replacement of all pipe work, a new header trench and Rink pad.

This additional work pushed the timescale for completion back from our original estimated re opening date.

As all of the major building work will very soon be complete, this will allow us to install all new pipe work and rebuild the ice pad. We are hoping that the work will be completed as soon as possible ready to welcome everyone old and new back on to brand new ice.

This is a very exciting time for all the customers and staff at Blackburn as the work undertaken will ensure the longevity of ice skating here for many years to come.

We would like to thank all of our customers for their patience and we look forward to seeing you all over the remainder of the summer and into the Hockey season.

Hopefully everyone is making good use of our sister rinks at Altrincham and Widnes during the closedown to keep up your skating skills and we can assure you that it will be worth the wait once we re- open blackburn with nice new level ice.

If anyone didn’t manage to get over to the other rinks and is feeling a little rusty we will be running various learn to skate courses to help with that. Please contact our box office for further details. Our box office is open daily for your enquiries or bookings.
