Planet Ice Junior Ice Hockey Cup

Friday 25th September 2020

Planet Ice are delighted to announce the Planet Ice cup for junior teams playing within the Planet Ice estate. The Planet Ice Cup will provide the juniors teams the opportunity to play competitive games.

Each junior club which is based at a Planet Ice rink will enter a team at each age group into the cup competition, which will initially be based on one and one away fixture. Rules will follow the existing rules for junior ice hockey and Planet Ice will ensure that the necessary insurances are in places for games to take place to ensure that players are able to participate without needing to be registered with an external body.

The cup competition is intended to be run on a regular basis, outside of the hockey season, as a way for junior players who need additional ice time in order to develop and it is intended that teams will be made up from developing players or players who have just started playing after coming through Planet Ice Hockey Excellence programme.

The Cup Competition will be overseen by Gary Dent, operating as an independent league manager, and the teams will be divided into two conferences, North and South, to minimise travel for the players and parents and there will be a final that will see the winners of the conferences at each age group face off against each other.

Planet Ice Chief Operations Office Heath Rhodes said, “It is really exciting that we are able to give our junior teams the opportunity to play competitive ice hockey over the Autumn months. This hopefully ensures that players remain motivated and continue to develop”.

“Through the Hockey Excellence pathway, the Planet Ice ethos is very much about giving every young person the opportunity to compete no matter of the level of their capability. Developing a skillset should be the aim for every young person no matter of the length of time is taken to reach a certain stage providing they enjoy what they are doing and are having fun – The Planet Ice Cup tournaments will embrace this ethos”.

A provisional fixture list has been prepared and the Planet Ice Cup will commence as soon as the English Ice Hockey Association moves to stage 4 of their return to play plan.

Planet Ice looks forward to seeing the Planet Ice teams competing, developing, and having fun over the next few months.
