Christmas Day Skate For Charity At Solihull
This Christmas Planet Ice Solihull opened up their doors on Christmas Day from 10am till 12pm, and donated all of their Admission fees to Sense – connecting sight, sound, and life, raising a total of £810.00.
Sense is a national disability charity that supports people living with complex disabilities, including those who are deafblind, to communicate and experience the world. Sense supports children, young people, and adults in their home and in the community, in their education and transition to adulthood and through its holidays, arts, sports and wellbeing programmes. In addition to practical support to families, Sense also offers information advice, short breaks and family events, and campaigns for the rights of people with complex disabilities to take part in life. Jon Fearn, Sense Activities Instructor and Coordinator explained, “After 20 plus years of providing weekly Ice Skating sessions for Sense, I am glad to say that Solihull Ice Rink has proven to be a welcoming and friendly environment in which to provide successful activity sessions for the deafblind people that Sense support.
Whether people access the ice in a wheelchair or by wearing skates and receiving physical support, we have a large number of people within Sense who really enjoy their time at the rink.”
Jon went on to thank Planet Ice Solihull – “On behalf of Sense I would like to thank Solihull Ice Rink for their generous support over the years, as it clearly helps make such a positive impact on so many people’s lives.”
The assistant manager at Planet Ice Solihull, Matthew Poultney, who worked during the Christmas Day Charity skate said “It a great pleasure for all of the staff to work Christmas Day and raising such a substantial amount of money for a fantastic charity that is part of our local community”.
Planet Ice Solihull offers a range of activities for members of their local community including public skating, Ice Skating lessons for all ages and abilities, Birthday parties and much more. To find out more about upcoming events at Planet Ice visit planet-ice.co.uk.
